Madison Millinger is a proud supporter of RugMark, the international nonprofit organization working to end illegal child labor in the carpet industry and to offer educational opportunities to children in South Asia.
 Child-Labor-Free Certification
RugMark randomly inspects the looms of companies that agree to employ adults only. Through independent certification and rigorous inspections you know your rug is child-labor-free. Carpet looms are monitored regularly by inspectors trained and supervised by RugMark. To protect against counterfeit labeling, each label is numbered so its origin can be traced back to the loom on which the rug was produced. As an extra assurance that children will not be employed, nonprofit child welfare organizations not affiliated with RugMark are given access to looms and factories inspected by RugMark.
In the United States, only licensed RugMark importers are legally permitted to sell carpets carrying the RugMark label. Look for the RugMark label on rugs at Madison Millinger.
Schools and Opportunities
RugMark has freed more than 3,000 children from weaving looms. Educational programs funded by sales and by donations to RugMark help these children through rehabilitation, day-care, literacy, formal schooling and vocational training.
Once children are freed from the looms, RugMark makes every effort to reunite them with their families. Children are then invited to attend school and with their families decide whether to enroll in a RugMark boarding school or to live at home and attend a public or private school with RugMark’s support.
RugMark runs 13 schools and centers and partners with other organizations to support children’s education. Other initiatives help create healthy, financially independent communities, providing health clinics, adult literacy programs and worker health and training seminars.
